Carrie Minagh
A powerful short memoir of survival, healing and learning to live again after a brain aneurysm
A remarkable story of survival, resilience and the determination to find a voice again.
At just thirty-three years old, Carrie Minagh believed life was finally falling into place. Then, without warning, a devastating brain haemorrhage changed everything.
Doctors feared the worst. After emergency surgery came a battle with sepsis, and the odds of survival grew slimmer by the day. When Carrie finally pulled through, she faced an overwhelming challenge. She had to learn to walk, talk, read, write and spell all over again.
Refusing to let tragedy define her, Carrie chose determination over despair. With remarkable courage, humour and an unbreakable spirit, she rebuilt her life one step at a time.
This is an inspiring story of survival, resilience and hope. A powerful reminder that every new day is a gift, and that no matter how impossible life may seem, you should never give up.
Meet the Author
Carrie Minagh is a stroke survivor, disability advocate and first-time author from Athlone, County Westmeath. After suffering a devastating brain aneurysm at the age of thirty-three, she lost the ability to walk, speak, read and write. Over the following years, she painstakingly learned each of those skills again, including finding her own written voice.
Carrie’s Story is written in that voice. Rather than rewriting her words into a polished literary style, Oakleaf Press chose to preserve them as Carrie wrote them. Every sentence reflects the determination of a woman who had to relearn language itself after her brain injury, making this memoir not only an extraordinary story of survival but remarkable proof of the resilience behind every page.
Today, Carrie uses her experience to support other stroke survivors and advocate for people living with acquired brain injuries, encouraging others to believe that recovery, hope and purpose remain possible, even after life’s darkest moments.
