Project Children - The Legacy
In 1975, two brothers refused to accept that a child’s summer should be spent in fear. Denis and Pat Mulcahy believed that if children could be lifted out of Northern Ireland’s Troubles, even for six weeks, they might glimpse a gentler world — and carry it home with them.
Over forty years, more than 23,000 Catholic and Protestant children crossed the Atlantic into the arms of American host families who asked for nothing in return. Friendships formed. Fears softened. Lives quietly changed on both sides of the ocean.
Told by the people who lived it, Project Children by Jane Buckley, is a testament to ordinary kindness in extraordinary times.
Turmoil
Against the backdrop, two opposing psychopaths on different sides of the sectarian divide are set on the same destructive and violent path, one that can only conclude in disillusionment and heartbreak for innocent bystanders in a country wracked by turmoil.
Darkness
The impact of the disaster follows the lives of so many, from the wealthy, vibrant James Henderson to the love-struck factory girl Caitlin McLaughlin.
Darkness takes us from the dank hellhole of the overpopulated Victorian Armagh Women’s Gaol to London’s lavish, opulent member-only private clubs. An unmerciful and harrowing tale, it endeavours to illustrate what life was like for Ulster’s war-torn, sectarian communities and the survival of the fittest.
Light
Caitlin McLaughlin, determined to live a normal life, still grieves. The toxic impact of the sectarian conflict is never far away and once more makes itself known with devastating results.
James Henderson pledges to carry on the battle for Rocola’s survival – blind and oblivious of a sinister adversary to his endeavours.
Light depicts the impacts of hunger strikes, collusion, sectarian violence, kidnapping and cold-blooded murder. However, it portends a momentous change in the air bringing reassurance and hope.
Hope
Amidst the violent Troubles, James Henderson experiences yet another failed relationship and yearns for normalcy with his family. However, feeling isolated and lonely, James fights against a looming threat that could disrupt all their lives.
Paddy Gillispie walks the political path towards peace but soon becomes a target as an ominous enemy lurks too close for comfort, endangering his loved ones.
Finally, Charles Jones is exposed for who he truly is. As his web of deceit and greed unravels, an unexpected collaboration arises between two opposing groups, united in their pursuit of justice and retribution.
